I Am Certain Our Basement Finishout Will Never Be Completed

It's official...in two weeks we will have had possession of our house for more than a year.  Granted we didn't move in until mid-November, but we started work as soon as the previous family moved out.  We put in new flooring on the main and loft levels.  We repainted everything.  We restored the wood stairs, banisters, balcony, and the beams in the loft.  We replaced the kitchen sink, faucet, countertops and backsplash.  We added new lights and took away some others.  We re-wired the internet connection to the house and added powerful "cell towers" on two levels to make sure our internet remained strong and consistent throughout.  We bought all new kitchen appliances, as well as a new water heater, and we installed all new HVAC.  We created a powder room where once was really ugly utility space.  We added ceiling fans and new rocker switches.  We upgraded our fuse box with wiring and breakers, and we uncovered a skylight in the master bath.  We repiped our gas lines and relocated a drain pipe.  We got new shades and curtains, and we installed an egress window in the basement.

But the basement remains unfinished.

We finally got the florescent lighting removed and recessed lighting installed and inspected, but the walls remain uninsulated and unfinished.  We have wires running along the floor and down the walls, and only two outlets that actually work.  I'm constantly afraid our monster power bars will just say, "What the fuck?" and give it up.

This is mostly our fault.  We HAVE been traveling a lot this summer, and it seems that when we do have a down week, our contractor is busy on other/larger jobs.  It's hard to get a lone wolf contractor to focus on our $1200 job instead of working on that $3 million dollar house across town.  I get that.  BUT WE'RE SO CLOSE.

The plan is to do the rest of the work once we get back from our final trip in late summer when we'll have a couple of months at home.  He can't put me off forever, can he?
