There's A Giant Trash Dumpster In My Driveway
We're in the final stages of getting our basement finished - number one thing I'm thankful for this season. In doing so, we have a lot of demo material like old drywall, baseboards, protective plastic, empty cans of insulating foam...you get the idea. And it's more than our small weekly dumpster can handle, so we rented a 9-cubic foot dumpster that holds 4,000 pounds of stuff.
Clearly, this is an invitation.
These past couple of days, as I'm making my way around the house and garage, I've been mentally marking all the things that will make their way into that dumpster. Before we moved into this house a year ago, we got rid of a ton...almost as much as we ditched when we moved from Dallas to Denver. But now we've collected new stuff and realized a lot of our old Dallas stuff just doesn't work for our lifestyle in Aurora. And, frankly, I'm tired of having sooooo much stuff. We need to be leaner, more efficient, less burdened by stuff and the storage containers we buy to put our stuff in. A salute to George Carlin!
So, along with drywall and bent nails, I'm taking advantage of the giant dumpster and putting a giant dump of stuff in it. For starters: Out goes the art supplies that I haven't touched in 10 years. Out goes the dented, unlockable file cabinet - the contents of which I can't even fathom (I must really need whatever is in there). Out goes the rusted set of patio lights we had in Dallas. Out go the two broken suitcases that I've been holding onto because I can store smaller suitcases inside them. Out go the smaller suitcases I never use because I can never find them.
I feel better already.
